Here "택시를" means taxi, and "타고 돌아왔어요" means "by returned home."

Therefore, the sentence means, "I returned home by taxi."

The literal translation in English is, "I taxi by returned home."

As you can see now, the object always comes before the verb but after the subject. This is definitely different because the literal translation in English sounds incorrect.
